Taart van m'n Tante
€
BAKERY & SWEETS
One of Amsterdam's best-loved cake shops operates from this uber-kitsch parlour, turning
out apple pies (Dutch, French or 'tipsy'), pecan pie, and wish- your-mother-baked-like-
this cakes. Hot-pink walls accent cakes dressed like Barbie dolls - or are they Barbies
dressed like cakes?

This tiny deli-cafe functions as an impromptu Italian cultural centre, with snatches of
Italian heard among the English, Japanese and Dutch being spoken by neighbourhood ex-
pats and longtime residents. They all know that chef Davide makes the most wicked fo-
caccia and creative lasagnes (the pumpkin will knock your socks off) around. The house-
made tiramisu is one of De Pijp's worthier sins.

INDIAN
One of the best-kept secrets in De Pijp is this friendly spot with its soothing interior. The
classics - from a smooth butter chicken masala to fiery tandooris and biryanis - never dis-
appoint, and the three kinds of Indian
rijsttafel
(banquet) present a worthy culinary adven-
ture for the seriously hungry.
