CLASSICAL MUSIC
Bernard Haitink, conductor of the venerable Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, once re-
marked that the world-famous hall - built in 1888 with near-perfect acoustics - was the or-
chestra's best instrument. Free half-hour concerts take place every Wednesday at 12.30pm
from mid-September until late June; arrive early. Those age 27 or younger can queue for

Each summer the Vondelpark's intimate open-air theatre hosts free concerts and perform-
ances. It's a fantastic experience to share with others. Expect world music, dance, theatre
and more. You can make a reservation (€2.50 per seat) on the website up to two hours in
advance of showtime.

This graffiti-covered former squat in the old Netherlands Film Academy hosts an eclectic
roster of bands and DJs, plus film screenings and theatre, with an emphasis on the strange
and fringey. The centre offers yoga and dance classes, too.
