La Falote
€€
TRADITIONAL DUTCH
Wee chequered-tableclothed La Falote is about Dutch home-style cooking, such as calf liv-
er, meatballs with endives, and stewed fish with beets and mustard sauce. The prices are a
bargain in an otherwise ritzy neighbourhood. And wait till the owner brings out the accor-
dion.

Loetje
€€
This cafe's short menu may be written on the chalkboard, but everyone just orders thick
steak, served medium-rare and swimming in delicious brown gravy. The staff are surpris-
ingly good humoured, particularly considering the loud, meat-drunken mobs they typically
serve.

Paloma Blanca
€€
MOROCCAN
The name is Spanish, but the lanterns, dishware and mosaic-topped tables are straight out
of a Marrakesh souk. Start with a gorgeous mezze platter before moving on to savoury
mains of couscous and
tajine
(Moroccan stew) dishes featuring an array of meats, veget-
ables and fish.
