Reguliersgracht
It's easy to focus on the raucous nightlife and forget that one of Amsterdam's most romantic canals flows in the
neighbourhood. The Reguliersgracht , aka the canal of seven bridges, is especially idyllic in the evening when
its humpbacked arches glow with tiny white lights. To get the money shot, stand with your back to the Thorbeck-
eplein and the Herengracht flowing directly in front of you to the left and right. Lean over the bridge and look
straight ahead down the Reguliersgracht. Ahhh. Now kiss your sweetie.

When you can't jet off to Venice for the weekend, Ponte Arcari will have to suffice. Sink
your fork into nightly dinner specials like eggplant rollatini au gratin, and you'll find
yourself still sighing over it days later. While there are many intimate, canalside restaur-
ants, few are this cosy. It's a stone's throw from Rembrandtplein and yet a world away. (

This cosy old canal-house restaurant is an unapologetically old-fashioned affair, with
candlelight, wine and romance to spare. The menu matches the vibe, with rustic dishes
like pigeon and rabbit, and an option of matched reds and whites alongside each course.
Vegetarians can fill up, too - maybe a dish with beetroot and goat's cheese or an oven-
roasted tomato tart. (
