8 Piet de Leeuw €€
STEAKHOUSE
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
Situated in a building that dates from 1900, this place has been a steakhouse and hang-out
since the 1940s, and the dark and cosy atmosphere has barely changed since then. If you
don't manage to get your own table, you may meet folks from all over at a common table,
eating well-priced steaks with toppings such as onions, mushrooms or bacon, served with
salad and piping-hot frites (fries). (

9 Van Dobben
OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP
Open since the 1940s, the venerable Van Dobben has white-tile walls and white-coated
counter men who specialise in snappy banter. Traditional meaty Dutch fare is its forte: try
the pekelvlees (something close to corned beef), or make it a halfom (if you're keen on that
being mixed with liver). The kroketten are the best in town and compulsory after a late-
night Rembrandtplein booze-up. (

This delicatessen piles fresh, delicious ingredients into its takeaway sandwiches, such as
smoked beef with egg and salt, or warm goat's cheese with pine nuts and honey. Ask for
the English menu if it's not on the counter already. ( www.loekie.net ; Utrechtsestraat 57; sandwiches
