Example 5.5 Using “Open” or “Import” Toolbar Options to Read Excel
Workbooks
This example shows how to read an Excel workbook using the Open or Import options on the SAS
Enterprise Guide toolbar. The example has the following steps. Note that the “Open” and “Import” option
buttons are in two places.
1. Select either the “Import” or “Open” option on the File tab.
2. Select a file using the “Open” file dialogue box.
3. Follow the instructions on the “Import Data” screens that are presented.
4. Press the “Finish” button to read the data into a SAS dataset.
NOTE: Once again, the user is cautioned that this process uses the Microsoft JET or ACE engine to read
data from Excel and is limited to 255 columns and 65,535 rows of data.
