subscribed to two mailing lists—a fortnightly news bulletin to
inform them of software updates, training, events, and so on and
also a “status” mailing list that informs users of service status,
downtime, and so on. Both email lists are publicly available
through the JISCmail service. Users also have a storage resource
broker (SRB) account created for them. Note that users apply for
use of NGS resources via an application through the NGS Support
Center, which is fed through a peer review process to validate the
research the user wishes to conduct on the NGS resources.

6.7.1.6 Web Site
The support center provides content management for the NGS Web site,
which holds a vast range of information on general information on the
NGS, certii cation, site and user joining information, site resource details,
tools for using and accessing the grid, and much more. The site is also
linked to the helpdesk knowledge base repository.
The Web site is regularly updated to include latest information; for exam-
ple, news articles, current research using NGS resources, events, vacancies,
and reports on numbers of certii cates generated. The target audiences/
users of the Web site are new NGS users, experienced NGS users, resource
providers, NGS partner and afi liate staff, and anyone interested in UK
grid computing. In addition to “regular” Web site content management,
the site also contains areas that are secured through the use of certii cates
and are used to host secure content such as minutes of board meetings.
6.7.1.7 Training
In addition to end-user training provided via the Training, Outreach, and
Education (TOE) team based at the National e-Science Center (NeSC), the
NGS runs regular courses designed for new RA managers and operators
that offer comprehensive training on the procedures and tasks that RA
operators will encounter.
6.7.1.8 NGS Portal
The support center hosts and develops, in conjunction with OMII-UK, the
NGS portal (JSDL Application Repository). The NGS portal provides
a range of standard (JSR168) compliant components that support user
