credential management, network resource information management, job
execution, i le transfer between distributed servers, SRB i le management,
and a new JSDL job repository and submission portlet.
The application provides three core functionalities:
A browsable repository of personal and shared/public JSDL job
proi le documents (job submission description language
documents). JSDL can be searched for by category of interest and
published to be made available to other users by the portlet
administrator(s).
A grid job submission and monitoring interface (currently, only
Globus but more grid middleware providers are being added,
e.g., GridSam/WSRF).
A JSDL GUI editor for constructing, validating, sharing, and
uploading jobs described in JSDL.
Additional functionality is currently under development for the second
portlet version, including support for additional middleware providers
(GridSam, WSRF) and staging protocols (SRB, Webdav). In addition, the
portlet is extensible in that application-specii c interfaces can be added to
the portlets client interface page-registry to provide more “application-
friendly” interfaces for building JSDL for specii c applications.
6.7.1.9 Documentation
The support center publishes and manages an extensive collection of
documentation relating to the NGS, certii cates, and grid computing.
This documentation is available across the NGS Web site, and also in a
dedicated “Documentation” section within the Web site. Documentation
is provided to assist end users who want to use NGS resources and
also NGS resource providers looking to implement NGS compatibility at
their site.
6.7.1.10 User Account Management
The NGS Support Center develops and maintains the User Accounting
Lifecycle System. This is used to manage all NGS user accounts and appli-
cations. It also automates the process of locking out users who exceed their
current CPU quota and renewing accounts of those who reapply.
The support center is responsible for the LDAP VO (virtual organiza-
tion) server used with the UAL system. The VO server provides user
information which sites use to grant users access to resources (through
the mechanism of “gridmap” i les). The VO server will be replaced by
