(strawberry/Fresa ), Rubus spp. (blackberry/Mora ), Passiflora spp. (passion fruit/
taxo ), Cyphomandra spp. (tree tomato/tomate de l'arbol ), and Physalis spp. (husk
tomato/uvilla ). They are grown in the garden and so are also irrigated using the
drip irrigation system used for vegetables and bear at different times throughout the
year. All are eaten as snacks or as part of a meal.
Both tree tomato (tomate de l'arbol; Fig. 6.2) and blackberry (mora; Fig. 6.3)
are widely grown and eaten in Ecuador. The tree tomato looks, inside and outside,
much like and is used in much the same ways as a tomato. The blackberry is
eaten
fresh,
sweetened
or
unsweetened
and
is
used
to
make
desserts,
such
as
