SQUARE
GYÓGY TÉR
(Cure Sq; GOOGLE MAP ; Gyógy tér)
This leafy square is home to the State Hospital of Cardiology (Országos Szívkórház;
GOOGLE MAP ; Gyógy tér 2) , which put Balatonfüred on the map. In the centre you'll en-
counter the Kossuth Pump House (1853), a natural spring that dispenses slightly sulphuric,
but drinkable, thermal water. If you can ignore the water's pale-yellow hue, join the locals
lining up to fill their water bottles. On the northern side of the square is the Balaton Pan-
theon , with memorial plaques from those who took the cure here.

The Jókai Memorial Museum is housed in the summer villa of the prolific writer Mór Jókai,

the stern gaze of his wife, actress Róza Laborfalvi. The museum is filled with family mem-
orabilia and period furniture.

Inspired by the Pantheon in Rome, the tiny neoclassical Round Church was completed in
1846. The Crucifixion (1891) by János Vaszary sits above the altar on the western wall.
