In-Depth Information
Balatonfüred
Explore
Balatonfüred is the oldest and most fashionable resort on Lake Balaton, Hungary's 'inland
sea' 130km southwest of Budapest. In its glory days in the 19th century the wealthy and
famous built large villas along its tree-lined streets, and their architectural legacy can still be
seen today. More recently, the lake frontage received a massive makeover, and it now sports
the most stylish marina on Balaton. The town is also known for its thermal water, but it's re-
served for patients at the town's world-famous coronary hospital. You'll have to content
yourself with swimming in the lake.

Top Tip
High season in Lake Balaton is July and August; crowds descend and prices skyrocket. If
you're keen to enjoy the water activities but don't want the crowds, try to visit in June or
September, when the water is warm, everything is still open and it feels summery - without
the intense humidity.
