When we're famished, broke and it's well past the witching hour, we head for this South
Slav eatery and join all the taxi drivers chomping on grills like csevapcsicsa (spicy meat-
balls), pljeskavica (spicy meat patties) or razsnyics (shish kebab). You can also take away.

főzelék (traditionally prepared vegetable) dishes are around 400Ft. We love the funny old
murals of Pest in the days of yore.

A wonderful marriage of modern and traditional, the Macesz Huszár serves up Hungarian
Jewish dishes in a swish bistro-style dining room, handsomely dressed up with lace table-
cloths, flock wallpaper and rocking horses. The Jewish-style eggs and matzo-ball soup are
standout starters, and goose and duck feature heavily on the list of excellent mains.
