In-Depth Information
Located in the heart of the Jewish district, Kádár is probably the most popular and authentic
étkezde
you'll find in town and attracts the hungry with its ever-changing menu. Be advised
that it usually closes for most of the month of July.
SANDWICHES
BORS GASZTRO BÁR
540-780Ft, soup 540Ft; 11.30am-midnight; ; M2 Astoria)
We love this thimble-sized place, not just for its hearty, imaginative soups (how about sweet
potato with coconut?) but for its equally good grilled baguettes: try 'Bors Dog' (spicy saus-
age and cheese) or 'Brain Dead' (pig's brains are the main ingredient here). It's not really a
sit-down kind of place; most people loiter by the doorway.
CAFE
SZIMPLA FARMERS' CAFE
8am-10pm; ; M2 Astoria)
Sourcing its ingredients from the farmers selling their wares at the Sunday
market
across the
road, this lovely, rustic cafe has a daily menu using seasonal ingredients (soup and a main
course) for 1100Ft, sandwiches (490Ft), pastries, fresh fruit juices and Has Bean coffee.
ÉTKEZDE
ERDÉLYI-MAGYAR ÉTKEZDE
11am-4pm Mon-Fri; M2 Blaha Lujza tér, 4, 6)
This little
étkezde
serves Transylvanian and Hungarian specialities to appreciative diners
but, alas, keeps bankers' hours. But if you can do any better than this for the price, let us
know.
THAI
KIS PARÁZS
680-1350Ft, wok dishes 1580-1980Ft; noon-10pm; ; M2 Astoria)
The sister eatery of
Parázs Presszó
,
with simpler dishes, has become a pre-club chow-down
venue of choice in central Pest.
