“Scenarios for transition towards a low-
carbon world in 2050: What's at stake for
heavy industries?” (Fonddri/EPE) provides
a representation of the worldwide primary
energy mix in 2050 under strong carbon
constraint. In this example, fossil fuels ac-
count for around 60% of the primary energy
supply in 2050. In absolute terms there is
however a major difference: the primary
oil consumption in 2050 in the low carbon
scenario accounts for 40% of primary oil
consumption in the BAU scenario.
