In-Depth Information
The wildly ambitious menu includes pasta arrabiata and crepes with mushrooms and as-
paragus, but Nepali chef Sanjay claims to be able to do it all. The chicken sizzler and
muesli with fruit and yoghurt may be safer bets but it all looks good and prices are reason-
able. It's just uphill from the Zhāngmù Hotel.

Located in the Sherpa Hotel, this Nepali-run place does everything from Tibetan momos to
pasta and burgers, and the Nepali curries pack a punch with the spices. Service is friendly
and there are sometimes baked goods available.
Information
Money changers deal openly in front of the Zhāngmù Hotel and change any combination
of Chinese yuán, US dollars and Nepali rupees at substantially better rates than the bank or
anywhere on the Nepali side.
Bank of China BANK
(, Zhōngguó Yínháng GOOGLE MAP ; 9.30am-1pm & 3.30-6pm Mon-Fri, 11am-2pm Sat & Sun)
This branch at the top end of town will change cash and travellers cheques into yuán and
also yuán into dollars, euros or pounds, but doesn't deal in Nepali rupees. The ATM ac-
cepts Mastercard, Maestro, Cirrus, Visa and Plus cards.
Public Security Bureau (PSB) POLICE
(, Gōng'ānjú GOOGLE MAP ; 874 2264; 9.30am-1pm, 3.30-6.30pm Mon-Fri)
If you are headed to Nyalam your guide will probably have to get a stamp at the Zhāngmù
PSB. Chinese tourists also have to get stamped here if they are headed to Nepal. Beyond
this, the office doesn't have much to do with tourists and cannot extend your visa. It's loc-
ated between the Zhāngmù and Sherpa Hotels.
