480; )
The biggest hotel in town has a cavernous Tibetan-style lobby and even offers oxygen ma-
chines in some of the rooms, but it's really only fairly clueless tour groups that stay here.
The rooms are clean but small and characterless. You can do better.
Eating
Shigatse offers the last chance for some foreign food until you get to the Nepali border.
Tibet Family Restaurant TIBETAN
(, Fēngshèng Cāntīng MAP

)
This teahouse-style Tibetan place is our favourite for its excellent food, nice outdoor seat-
ing and friendly clientele of locals. It also boasts the perfect people-watching location,
right at the end of the monastery kora. The food runs from simple and fresh vegetable op-
tions to more adventurous yak-meat dishes, all great value.
Sumptuous Tibetan Restaurant TIBETAN
(, Fēngshèng Zāngshì Cāntīng MAP GOOGLE MAP ; Zhufeng Lu; mains ¥15-30; )
Another great option next to the Gang Gyen Hotel that's always buzzing and full of
Tibetans. Choose from comfy Tibetan-style seats and decor inside or the pleasant back ter-
race. The bill is never quite what you expect but prices are reasonable, the food is good
and the waiters eager to please. The menu and management is the same as the Tibet Fam-
ily Restaurant.
