In-Depth Information
Solid upper budget option with modern, comfortable rooms set around a sunny atrium.
The small rooms don't have much natural light (corner rooms are bigger) and it's too far to
walk to Tashilunpo but there's a Tibetan hot pot restaurant attached. This is good value for
Shigatse.

Sakya Monastery owns this new three-star hotel but fear not, these are not your average
monastery digs. Rooms are modern, fresh and spacious and there's a lovely sunny atrium
bar and restaurant. It's right across from the entrance to the summer palace.
Tsampa Hotel HOTEL
(, Zāngbā Dàjiŭdiàn MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 866 7888; 9 Renbu Lu; d/tr ¥280/350; )
This three-star Tibetan place opened in 2012 and is a good choice. The rooms are fresh,
modern and carpeted with modern bathrooms and lots of Tibetan touches, including a good
Tibetan restaurant.
Gesar Hotel HOTEL
(, Gésà'ěr Jiǔdiàn GOOGLE MAP ;

)
This new four-star giant has clean and modern rooms, each decorated with its own thangka
of Gesar Ling, and a pleasant rooftop teahouse, though the location in the southwestern
suburbs is a bit of a drag. The deluxe rooms are huge but the glass-walled bathrooms won't
work unless you and your room mate are very close friends.
The disappointing breakfast buffet is aimed squarely at Chinese visitors (pickles and
rice gruel, anyone?).
