Sleeping
Samding Monastery Guesthouse GUESTHOUSE
(, Sāngdīng Sì Zhāodàisuǒ 139 8993 3664; dm ¥40)
The accommodation is quite simple, in dorms of four or five beds with a clean pit toilet
down the hall, but the reception is warm, the Tibetan-style restaurant is cosy and the views
over the valley are superb. It's attached to the monastery, 10km outside Nangartse.
Sheep Lake Hotel HOTEL
(, Yánghú Bīnguǎn 152 0803 1939; r ¥250-280, tr ¥350-380)
This Chinese-run pile of concrete is the most comfortable place in Nangartse town. Hot
showers are available (the only running water available in town), along with relatively
clean and comfortable rooms. It's located on the main highway, just at the end of Yang-
zhuo Lu.
Eating
Lhodrak Lianzum Sarkhang TIBETAN
(, Luòzhā Jùlǜ Cānguǎn 135 4908 6394; mains ¥15)
Avoid the tour-group lunch crowd at this pleasant Tibetan teahouse-style restaurant serving
good portions of Chinese and Tibetan dishes at a fraction of the tourist restaurants. The
Chinese dishes with rice (, gàijiāofàn ) are particularly good value.
Lhasa Restaurant CHINESE, INTERNATIONAL
(, Lāsà Cāntīng 738 2298; Yangzhuo Lu; buffet ¥40, dishes ¥25-60; 8am-10pm)
This well-established restaurant has a colourful dining hall with old photos of Lhasa and is
popular with tour groups for its lunchtime buffets (11am to 3pm) and big portions. It's a
tad overpriced.
Yamdrok Yak Restaurant INTERNATIONAL
(, Yángzhuō Yà Cāntīng
139 8993 0717; buffet with drink ¥45, dishes ¥15-40;
7am-11pm)
