A bright, contemporary spot, the Milk Can is the business when it comes to galettes (sa-
voury buckwheat crêpes) - try smoked salmon or goat's cheese and bacon - and sweet
crêpes (pistachio ice cream, zesty orange, hot chocolate and whipped cream). Salads are
spectacular; kids will love the ice-cream sundaes.

A crisp white-and-green facade handily placed next to a Vélib' station flags the Pasta
Garden, a simple, smart 100% bio (organic) place where pasta comes in every guise imagin-
able - barley, buckwheat, rye, wheat, rice, chestnut and so on. Try the pâtes de chataignes
(chestnut pasta) with duck breast, nutmeg, crème fraîche and mushrooms.

The original branch of Eric Kayser, which has now become a household name in Paris. It's
one of the best bakeries that's reasonably close to the Seine and the islands. A few doors
down (at No 12) is a second shop, with seating, coffee and light, flaky pastries.

Enormous, creative meal-size salads are the reason to pick this as a dining spot. Magnifi-
cently placed across from the domed Panthéon on the shady side of the street, its pavement
terrace is big, busy and oh so Parisian - turn your head away from Voltaire's burial place
and the Eiffel Tower pops into view.
Service is superspeedy and food is handily served all day.
