Founded in 1889, this unassuming bar is about as authentic as it gets in Montmartre. It spe-
cialises in quality seafood - oysters, lobster, scallops - and regional dishes (Auvergne saus-
age), but you can also pull up a seat at the bar for a simple glass of wine and a plate of char-
cuterie.
POULTRY
LE COQ RICO
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 01 42 59 82 89; www.lecoqrico.com ; 98 rue Lepic, 18e; mains €22-39, whole
roast chicken €95; noon-2pm & 7-11pm daily; Abbesses)
The first haute cuisine restaurant to open in Montmartre in years, Le Coq Rico specialises in
poultry - and not just any poultry, but red-ribbon birds that have been raised in luxurious
five-star chicken coops.
A selection of eggs, gizzards, bouillons, foie gras ravioli and other delicacies whet the ap-
petite before the arrival of the pièce de résistance: an entire just-roasted chicken or
guineafowl, which can be split up to four ways.
