The climatic data regarding sunshine (the duration of sunshine and the intensity
of solar irradiation) is of interest both for the warm period of the year and for the
cold one. They are used for dimensioning the air-conditioning installations during
the warm season, establishing the solar inputs, which must be taken up. In addition,
the climatic data regarding sunshine are used to adjust the heat necessary for
heating as long as the building is designed accordingly to capture the solar energy
during the cold season. The average sums of sunshine duration, in hours per month,
for Gala
ţ
i are given in Table 4 .
The Galati city is located in a temperate continental climate zone, slightly
modi
ed by the proximity of the Black Sea and the intrusion of warm wet air from
the Mediterranean. Climatic seasons are clearly de
ned with a short and soft low-
snow winter and a long summer which can be very hot and dry. Monthly air
temperature and relative humidity of the external air has an important role in
ventilation and acclimatization. The monthly climatic parameters for Galati city are
shown in Table 5 .
The land surface characteristics, where house is located in the Galati city, have
great importance in de
c climate condition. Landscape features in
the area, vegetation characteristics, the in
ning the speci
uence of the Danube river and Brates
lake, and construction types (presence of C and D hostels with 15
-
20 m height)
determine the local climatic particularities.
3.4.2 Local Energy Sources and Resources
A. Solar energy potential of the Romanian territory
Renewable energy sources have a large potential in Romania and moreover, each
development region bene
ts from at least two renewable energy sources that might
be exploited (Fig. 5 ).
Galaţi
ţ
i city is situated in southeast region with a solar energetic potential of
5,113) MJ/m 2 /year or of (1,350
950) kWh/m 2 /year (Fig. 6 ).
