The maturity matrix is a good tool for internal assessment and as well as
for comparisons to other companies.
Analytic Hierarchy Process
The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is a framework of logic and problem
solving that organizes data into a hierarchy of forces that influence deci-
sion results. It is a simple, adaptable methodology in use by government as
well as many commercial organizations. One of the chief selling points of
this methodology is that it is participative, promotes consensus, and does
not require the use of any specialized skill sets.
AHP is based on a series of paired comparisons in which users provide
judgments about the relative dominance of the two items. Dominance
can be expressed in terms of preference, quality, importance, or any
other criterion.
Four sets of metrics need to be determined, one for each of the four
balanced-scorecard perspectives. Metric selection usually begins by gath-
ering participants together for a brainstorming session. The number of
participants selected should be large enough to ensure that a sufficient
number of metrics are initially identified.
