In-Depth Information
Behind its shiny facade, this slick glamour bastion unapologetically curries favour with cre-
atives from fashion, music and film. Heck, British band Hurts and DJ Mousse T have de-
signed their own rooms (numbers 501 and 401, respectively). No need to run with this
crowd to appreciate the black-and-charcoal rooms where iMacs replace the TV. Optional
breakfast is €18.

This delightful hotel scores a perfect 10 on our 'charm-o-meter', not for being particularly
lavish, but for its familiar yet elegant ambience. Rabbits frolic in the garden, the restaurant
is a local favourite and rooms sparkle in restored glory. The nicest are in the new wing and
flaunt their historic features - ornate stucco ceilings, frescoes, parquet floors - to maximum
effect.

Catalan shoemaker Camper has translated its concept of chic yet sensible footwear into this
style-pit for trend-conscious travellers. Rooms are mod if minimalist and come with day-lit
bathrooms and beds that invite hitting the snooze button. Minibars are eschewed for a top-
floor lounge with stellar views, free breakfast and 24/7 snacks and drinks.
BOUTIQUE HOTEL
SOHO HOUSE BERLIN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 030-405 0440; www.sohohouseberlin.com ; Torstrasse 1; d from €150;
; Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz)
This in-crowd darling packs plenty of design cachet into its eclectic-mod rooms equipped
with such lifestyle essentials as Jamboxes, huge flat-screen TVs and rain showers. Staying
here also buys access to members-only areas such as the restaurant, the rooftop pool/bar and
a small movie theatre.
It's all in a Bauhaus building that's seen stints as a department store, Hitler Youth HQ and
East German party elite offices.
