In-Depth Information
Station miscellany. Milan's railway station has many other services. There is a
large and rather comfortable first-class lounge leading off the street side of the
main hall. Its entrance is just to the left of the tourist information office. Inside
the lounge you will find a computer that can give you train information.
Milano Centrale is a multilevel station, but elevator service from the train level
to the street level is available. The entrance on the train level is inside the first-
class lounge. If you have a first-class rail pass, you have full access to the pas-
senger lounge and elevator service.
Taxi service is available at both side entrances and the front, and bus service
is in the Piazza Duca d'Aosta in front of the station. Pictographs of the station's
facilities are located conveniently at the end of many tracks.
Double-check your departing train number and platform location. For example,
when departing Milan for Munich aboard EuroCity 93 Leonardo Da Vinci , signs
in the station will indicate the train's destination as MONACO. In Italian, this means
“Monk,” and Munich (in German) is the “City of Monks.” So, you are on the right
train, and you are not bound for Monaco, which, in French, means “Monte Carlo.”
InterCity 341 Ligure is the proper train to board if you are in fact going to Monaco
and Monte Carlo via Genoa.
Emerging from the train platforms, if you detect the aroma of an American-style
hamburger, it's coming from Wendy's. To get there, turn right in the station hall and
take the escalator at the far end to the street level. Skirt the tram terminal to the
left, then look for the Wendy's sign.
