Arriving by Train
ConnollyStationandDART: Amiens Street ( Tel: 01 703 2358). The Connolly Sta-
tion is the terminal in Dublin for trains arriving from Northern Ireland and for boat
trains connecting with the Irish ferries that sail from the port of Rosslare, south of
Dublin, to the French ports of Cherbourg and Le Havre.
Coming from London by train requires a transfer to either a Stena Line or Irish
Ferries ferry at Holyhead. The Stena Line ferries serve the port of Dun Laoghaire,
a suburb of Dublin, where passengers can transfer to the center of the city by the
local rapid-transit train service, DART.
The northwestern coastal city of Sligo is also reached by train service departing
from Connolly Station, as are the towns of Wicklow and Wexford, located south of
Dublin in the direction of Rosslare.
Heuston Station: west of city center on the River Liffey ( Tel: 01 703 2132). Ren-
ovated in 2003, Heuston serves as the departure point for Europe by Eurail day
excursions to Cork, Galway, Kilkenny, and Killarney.
City buses depart from the head of track No. 5 in Heuston Station and take
passengers near the O'Connell Bridge. There is also a taxi stand on the opposite
side of the station immediately beyond track No. 1 and outside the ticket-office en-
trance.
Heuston Station has eight main tracks. Ticket offices are located on the side of
the station serving track Nos. 1 and 2. Train information and rail pass validation are
available at any of the ticket windows.
Advance seat reservations may be obtained from the Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail)
ticket office at Connolly and Heuston Stations as well as at the Irish Rail Travel
Centre at 35 Lower Abbey Street ( Tel: 01 703 4058). Reservations can be made up
to 1700 on the preceding day. If you don't have seat reservations, we suggest ar-
riving in the station about a half hour before your train's scheduled departure time
just in case the travel is heavy on the day you have selected for your excursion.
