throughout makes the whole building—even the halls—exceptionally quiet. A rehab
of a 1928 building, the Hilton opened in 1999 as the Wyndham Boston and was
reflagged in 2006. The closest competitor, literally and figuratively, is the Langham,
which is less convenient to public transit but has a swimming pool.

Hyatt Regency Boston Financial District This centrally located
22-story hotel is a busy convention and business destination during the week, and on
weekends its excellent packages make it a magnet for sightseers and families. The eco-
friendly Hyatt chain has spent millions upgrading the property since acquiring it in
2003, and it shows in everything from the pillow-top mattresses to the top-notch serv-
ice. The building's plain exterior conceals elegant European-style appointments from
the second-floor lobby on up. Guest rooms surround four atriums, creating the effect
of several small hotels in one. Soft earth tones predominate, with lots of cushy uphol-
stery and luxe linens on the king-size or (in about one-quarter of the units) two dou-
ble beds. Rooms are spacious enough to hold sitting areas, desks, and settees. Ask for
a unit on a high floor—adjacent Washington Street is likely to be awash in construc-
tion during your visit.

The Langham, Boston In the center of the Financial District, the Langham is
one of the best business hotels in the city. Leisure travelers who take advantage of
weekend discounts will find themselves practically on top of the waterfront and down-
town attractions, and perhaps a 10-minute walk from public transit—a bit of a hike,
to spoiled Bostonians. Elegantly decorated and large enough to hold a generous work
area, the luxurious, regularly refurbished guest rooms have 153 configurations, includ-
ing loft suites with two bathrooms. The most desirable rooms in the nine-story build-
ing overlook the lovely park in Post Office Square. The city views are engaging, but
they pale in comparison to the vistas from the best units at the Langham's main com-
petitors, the Boston Harbor Hotel and the InterContinental Boston.
