island's most authentic old r estaurants, this place is popular with
locals and draws an occasional visitor . I t's most festiv e on S unday
when church groups in their “Sunday-go-to-meeting” clothes pour in
for “a fill-up.” The restaurant is housed in a wooden str ucture deco-
rated with ship car vings and pictur es of Caymanian life. The cooks
make the island 's most sav ory kettle of tur tle stew, served with rice,
beans, potato salad, and coleslaw. You can also order such hearty fare
as braised o xtail or r oast beef in gravy with v egetables and rice. The
choice selection is always the catch of the day—perhaps mahimahi,
snapper, or kingfish—served fried or grilled.

Come to Cayman B rac for spectacular outdoor activities rather than
man-made attractions. Scuba div ers flock her e in dr oves, and ev ery-
one—from singles to families—loves the beaches.
THE BEACHES
Though Cayman Brac can hardly compete with Grand Cayman and
its Seven Mile Beach, the beaches on Brac will satisfy most tastes, even
if they're on a smaller scale.
Most of the beaches lie in the southw est, the nor theast, and the
northwest. The East End, where the cliffs of the Bluff meet the sea, is
definitely not beach country.
The majority of visitors use the small beaches along the southw est
coast because this is the site of such major resorts as Brac Reef. We've
found that these beaches ar
e better for sunning than snor
keling
because of the huge outgrowth of turtle grass in the water.
Directly east of these r esorts is the public beach, r eached by head-
