Where to Stay
Druidstone This family haven sits in wild gardens on the cliff above
Druidston Haven beach. It's part hotel, part holiday home; some of the rooms have
en suite, some not. There are cottages converted from outbuildings that sleep 10. It's
been run by the same couple since 1972 and has that post-hippie feel, sometimes
with musical events (the owners are chummy with reformed pop-folk-rockers Stack-
ridge, the first band George Martin worked with after The Beatles). Breakfast is a
treat (St. Bride's Bay mackerel, organic black pudding); there's food served in the
cellar bar, a restaurant with an ever-changing menu (main courses £13-£20); and
children's high tea. A perfect place for a family get-together.

Warpool Court Hotel The world's best views don't come cheap, and the pan-
orama from this country house is enough to make you pay out. The Warpool sits high
on the St. Davids' peninsula, just outside town, and its 6 hectares (15 acres) of gar-
dens gaze loftily over sea and coast. The least expensive rooms are modest and don't
benefit from the scenery outside. But for your money you do get secluded gardens
and views over one of the most beautiful coastal stretches in Wales.

MID-WALES: COAST &
COUNTRY
This isn't the best-known stretch of coast, but it does have its gems. Start at Cardigan
