Severnshed ENGLISH/MEDITERRANEAN The best choice for reasonably
priced waterfront dining in the heart of the city, this restaurant is said to be the former
boathouse of Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The decor is very contemporary, however,
with a menu that combines fresh, seasonal British produce with the flair of the Por-
tuguese chef. The lobster risotto is superb, but all the main courses are excellent—
from the beer-battered cod and chips to the pan-seared tuna with crab and lime
butter and green beans. The tapas-like small plates (think whitebait and garlic lemon
mayonnaise) are perfect for a lighter meal.

tol, this budget Moroccan restaurant knocks out mouth-watering chicken marinated
in lemon and spices, couscous, succulent lamb tagine, and falafel. It's located in St.

tol, with four branches in the city. This is one of the closest to the center, with a wide
range of main meals (from burgers to jambalaya), sandwiches, cakes, tapas, coffee,
beer, and cocktails. At night the wooden tables are lit with candles, making the trade-
mark rustic chic interiors with cozy sofas even more inviting, and a touch romantic.

Bristol's Inner City Farm
The Cafe at St. Werburghs City
Farm , Watercress Road, St. Wer-
burghs ( &   0117/942-8241; www.sw
cityfarm.org.uk), sources most of its
food from surrounding allotments (the
inner-city “farm”) and numerous ani-
mals on-site. It's a brilliant idea; meals
are cheap, wholesome, organic, and
fresh. Expect a creative roster of
dishes, from butter bean hummus
and bubble and squeak with black pud-
ding (blood sausage), to roast pumpkin
and goat's cheese burrito (main courses
from £5.95). Open Wednesday to Mon-
day 10am to 4pm (5pm in summer). The
farm is on the northwest edge of the
city; take the A4032 out of the center,
and turn north along Mina Road before
it becomes the M32 (no direct buses;
take a taxi or drive).
