came into the VIC were invited to participate in the survey. Data were
entered into SPSS v.19.
Results
In total, 174 responses to the survey were collected from the four regions: 43
from Ballarat, 64 from Bendigo, 38 from Geelong and 27 from Yarra Valley.
An expanded FLC model had been used for the survey instrument. The
traditional FLC model (Wells & Gubar, 1966) was used as the framework,
and additional FLC stages were added to reflect a more modern lifestyle. The
results for the expanded FLC can be seen in Table 11.1.
Despite best attempts to capture people through an expanded FLC
model, 9.2% felt that no group represented their FLC position. Some
examples included widowers who were still working, people aged over 35
who were separated and had no children, 'retired' and 'pensioner '. Some
people are on pensions from a young age - such as disability pensions - and
some of those in the survey did not feel that any of the options captured
their situation. Similarly, an individual who has retired and married but
does not have children was not represented adequately in the options. As
