Yellow flowers precede the pods, which grow to 3 or 4 inches in length when mature;
each pod contains a dozen or so beans.
How to Grow
Getting started. Plant mung beans at the same time as snap beans, when there is no
danger of frost and the ground has thoroughly warmed up. In most areas you won't be
able to make successive plantings since they require 90 to 120 days to reach maturity.
Sow next to a fence or in a corner of your vegetable garden. The plants are some-
what twining in nature and liable to bother other vegetables if grown too close. If you
plant it among corn, it can climb the corn stalks and will mature long after you harvest
the last of your corn crop.
Planting. Sow seeds about ½ inch deep. Since plants may grow more than 3 feet high
and bush out quite a lot, set the seeds at least 6 to 8 inches apart in rows about 24 inches
apart. No thinning will be necessary. Seeds germinate in about three days, so you have
time to fill in seeds if any failed to come up.
Allow mung bean vines to twist around your corn stalks.
Growing needs. If your garden soil is reasonably good, you don't need to add fertilizer
before planting. Mung beans are prolific and grow easily without any special care. Give
