If we go back to describing Samarkand as a beautiful princess, we may
portray these paintings as the silk garments she wore so proudly. As it is
well known silk is actually the pinnacle of the Eastern artwork. Hence
these paintings were also meticulously made with attentive skills as silk
is weaved and vested on the queen. A bridal procession is observed in
the paintings dating 6th-7th centuries. Western Göktürks Qaghan “T'ung
Yagbu” married the daughter of Sogdian ihshid (Sogd land owner) named
“Sogdu” in 605-616. The Sogdians seen in Fig. 5 appear to be waiting to
