extract anions. Soils are leached with water and Dowex 50-X4 resin added to the aqueous
extract which is then passed through a Sep-Pak C 18 cartridge and the eluate then passed
through the ion chromatographic column. The best separation of these ions was obtained
using a 5×10 −4 mol L −1 potassium hydrogen phthalate solution in 2% methanol at pH 4.9.
A reverse phase system was employed. Retention times were 5.5, 7.9, 12.6 and 18min for
