Singh et al. [35] used suppressed ion chromatography to analyse low concentrations of
anions in non saline waters in the presence of high concentrations of matrix ions.
Table 12.9 gives a summary of various other methods described in the literature for the
determination of anions in non saline waters.

12.2.6 Mixtures of plant and soil extracts

12.2.6.1 Chloride, nitrate, sulphate and phosphate

Bradfield and Cooke [55] described an ion chromatographic method using an ultraviolet
detector for the determination of chloride, nitrate, sulphate and phosphate in water
extracts of plants and soils. Plant materials are heated for 30min at 70°C with water to
