Who built it…who owns it
Bodysgallen was probably constructed as a watchtower in the Middle Ages to serve as de-
fensive support for Conwy Castle. The core of the building has been dated to the 13
th
cen-
tury. The first historical reference to “Bodscathlan” appears in the mid-14th century Re-
cord of Caernarvon. The main house was built in 1620 by Robert Wynne and enlarged
periodically over the next three centuries in a style consistent with the original. Most of
the additions are Victorian era.
A long relationship between the house and the Mostyn family began in the 16
th
century.
