Ronald Greville died two years after purchasing Polesden Lacey, leaving the house to his
wife, who lived, loved and lavished in the estate. Without an heir, in her will Mrs. Greville
left Polesden Lacey to the National Trust in 1942. She left the estate to the Trust with in-
structions that it be made accessible for public enjoyment with her art collection on per-
manent display.
