vatnet. To reach it, drive north of Odda to Tyssedal, then northeast to Skjeggedal, from
where Trolltunga is an eight- to 10-hour return hike away. En route, watch out for the
Tyssestrengene waterfall (646m). If you continue on a little beyond Trolltunga, you reach
another fine vantage point, Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock), a smaller version of the lookout of
the same name above Lysefjord, close to Stavanger.
Activities
For hikes of up to six hours around town, pick up the helpful brochure Hikes in Odda, or

office.
Glacier Hikes
Anyone in good physical condition with warm clothing and sturdy footwear can take a
guidedhikeupthelovelyBuervalleyfollowedbyaglacierwalkontheBuerarmofFolge-
fonn(adultNkr650,includingcramponsandiceaxes).Thisisoneofthebestplacestodoa
glacier walk because you're onto the ice straight away without wading first through snow.
The excursions are run by the excellent Flat Earth ( 47 60 68 47; www.flatearth.no )
and the round-trip from Odda usually lasts a full day. Transport to the starting point, at
Buer, 8km west of Odda, is included in the price.
Climbing & Canyoning
Flat Earth also organises full-day canyoning (Nkr650, four hours) and climbing (Nkr250,

Another option is the combination of climbing up the power station's vertical 'Via Fer-
rata' ladders - jammed into the rock wall by power-station workers - and hiking on to
