Box is a place where the owners do simple things well, such as bright modern rooms with
splashesofcolour,freewirelessaccess,aminimalistdesignerfeelwithoutthepricetagand
friendly young staff. For the rooms without a bathroom, there are two showers for every
fiverooms,mostoftheroomshavekitchenfacilitiesandthere'salaundryroom.Let'shope
the City Box idea catches on elsewhere in Norway.

This lovely, rambling house out on the Nordnes Peninsula close to the
aquarium is illuminated by a fine collection of antiques and by the friendly owner, Grethe
Marthinussen. It's a good choice in a quiet location.

Midway
between the harbour and the train station, this fine hostel has simple but extremely well-
kept rooms. The white walls and wooden floors give an attractive sense of light and space
and the communal areas are clean and pleasant. It also has a washing machine and bed lin-
en/towels cost Nkr65/15 for those in dorms.
