This excellent modern hotel only opens for three
months a year (it's used for student accommodation the rest of the year), and that's a real
shame because the rooms here are terrific - light, modern and well-equipped. The location
is also good.

Gone are the
days when staying in a hostel meant a long hike into town; this friendly hostel could be
Norway's most central. It has that unmistakable hostel feel, same-sex or mixed dorms, kit-
chen facilities and a terrific rooftop terrace. Bookings are essential year-round and, unusu-
ally, bed linen is included in the price. The only drawback is that single prices may not be
available in summer.

Opposite the train station, the
Grand Hotel Terminus has historically been the hotel of choice for the city's well-heeled
visitors.It'snowinthereliablehandsofthepeoplefromAugustinHotel,andarecentover-
haul has brought much-needed freshness to the place. The rooms (some a little small) are
beautifully decorated. The building dates from 1928 and there's some elaborate old-world
decor in the public areas.

Modern, well-equipped apartments in the heart of town are the order of the day here. The
rooms don't have a lot of personality, but they're large and comfortable and there are ter-
rific views from the more expensive rooms.
