These converted 19th-
century farm buildings just off the Rv15 between Lom and Vågå are a wonderful alternat-
ive to hotels and make a great base if you'll be in the area for more than a night.
Jotunheimen National Park
The high peaks and glaciers of the Jotunheimen National Park (1151 sq km), whose name
meansthe'HomeoftheGiants',makeforNorway'sbest-lovedandbusiestwildernessdes-
tination. Hiking routes lead from ravine-like valleys and past deep lakes, plunging water-
fallsand60glacierstothetopsofallthepeaksinNorwayover2300m;theseincludeGald-
høpiggen (the highest peak in northern Europe at 2469m), Glittertind (2465m) and Store
Skagastølstind (2403m). By one count, there are more than 275 summits above 2000m in-
side the park.
