Festivals & Events
The biggest winter event is
Rørosmartnan
(Røros Market), which began in 1644 as a ren-
dezvous for hunters who ventured into town to sell their products to miners and buy sup-
plies. Thanks to a royal decree issued in 1853 stipulating that a grand market be held an-
nually from the penultimate Tuesday of February to the following Saturday, it continues
today. Nowadays it's celebrated with cultural programs, street markets and live entertain-
ment.
