This multifaceted but largely uninspiring place, in the grounds of Kongsten
Fort, is nonetheless good for its proximity to the Old Town. From the centre, take any bus
(eg 362) headed for Torsnes.

and the flowers of the neighbouring park. The staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly,
and if you book through the Fjord Pass system, you can get a substantial discount.

High on a hill overlooking the town, but within easy walking dis-
tance of the centre, this lovely old wooden house has comfortable, tidy rooms and good
views. It also has rooms in a new neighbouring block that mainly have IKEA to thank for
their furnishings. They do, though, have little kitchens for self-caterers. To get here, walk
to the northern end of Storgata and then, turning right, follow the hotel signs up the hill.
