the sort of slow and old-fashioned manner that guarantees a good meal. There's a formal
indoor dining room or a much more informal garden area out the back.

Fri, 10am-10pm Sat, noon-10pm Sun) For burgers, snacks and coffee, cosy little Lille
Frederik is just the place. It's hugely popular in summer, when snackers descend on the
outdoor tables like seagulls, and queues can be long. Steak and chips for Nkr99 is a good
deal and the ice creams have hordes of fans.
NEW TOWN
The Fredrikstad waterfront between Storgata and the water is lined with all manner of res-
taurants and bars, most with pleasant outdoor terraces ideal for a summer's afternoon or
evening.
Thai Restaurant THAI €€
Offline map Google map ( 69 30 81 81; Nygaardsgata 33; mains Nkr130-190) No
prizes for guessing what sort of cuisine comes steaming out of the kitchens here. Though it
may not be imaginatively named, this restaurant offers perfectly spiced curries. Your body
will thank you for giving it rice rather than another hotdog.
