assembled entirely of steel, this unique creation looks from the outside like a clumsily
opened sardine can, with jagged and curled edges, and stained glass. Inside it's just as
unusual: all the walls are a rust-orange version of the outer skin, and there are some
striking ornaments. The building is famed for its acoustics, and holds occasional
concerts (details from the tourist office).
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
HALMSTAD
By train It takes under 20min to get here from Falkenberg
by train, and you arrive at the new Resecentrum travel
centre. To get into town from here, follow Bredgatan west
to the Nissan River, then walk north along Strandgatan to
the bridge across to the centre of town; it takes about
15-20min.
Destinations Copenhagen (hourly; 2hr 30min); Falkenberg
(hourly; 17min); Gothenburg (hourly; 1hr 10min); Malmö
(hourly; 2hr).
By bus All long-distance buses use the new Resecentrum
travel centre. Town buses depart from Österskans beside
the theatre.

There's a good selection of good-quality accommodation available in Halmstad. However, it's worth remembering that the
town centre is a fifteen- to twenty-minute walk from the travel centre, which may influence your choice.

EATING AND DRINKING
People congregate in the trendy restaurants, bars and clubs along cobbled, pedestrianized Storgatan , many of which
have shaded outdoor areas along the street. Lilla torg , just behind, also swarms with people on summer evenings.

large, airy Italian café and deli with a great quiche buffet
(89kr) at lunchtimes as well as a tasty range of takeaway
ciabatta sandwiches (50kr) and a good choice of speciality

popular, modern English-style bar, rather than pub, with
live music and after-work specials that bring people from
across town. Also serves light meals and has outdoor
seating in summer. Mon-Thurs 5pm till late, Fri

Traditional coffee house overlooking the park with black-
and-white pictures of Halmstad adorning the interior. A
nice relaxed atmosphere and a good place for a coffee and

feel to the interior of this cosy neighbourhood restaurant,
serving a classic mix of French and Swedish: marinated
lamb with garlic and herbs and veal fillet with roast
peppers for example. Mains are 199-279kr. Mon-Sat 6pm
