In-Depth Information
Review
This chapter builds on the modeling techniques presented in several other chapters. It implements all of the
skills you have learned and adds a few techniques that help solve the visual problems presented in a model-
ing project. When confronted with a complex or difficult modeling task, use good references, block in basic
forms, and break large tasks into small sections to tackle any task as you continue to practice and improve
your skills. After reading this chapter and practicing the exercises, you should be able to do the following:
• Load and use architectural elevations as modeling references (this also applies to other types of
models that require references)
• Use simple forms to block in simple geometry to break down complex forms
• Utilize basic blocking geometry to start creating complex finished structures
• Combine simple shapes (cubes, cylinders, and spheres) to create finished geometry
• Use subdivision surfaces in selected sections to add smooth curves and sculpted details
• Implement displacement maps to create highly complex pieces of geometry
Where to Go from Here
Take the model created here and add extra details, such as gutters, a mailbox, and gates in the fence. This
will give you an opportunity to apply the techniques you practiced to create a complete and complex scene.
