Using Simulated Lighting
The current lighting in the scene is essentially imaginary and mimics the lighting of a small tabletop archi-
tectural model with no roof. If the directional light provides lighting that is too distracting, a simple solution
is available:
1. Hide the Directional Light.
2. In the Shader Tree, set the Indirect Illumination Multiplier (in the Base Shader) to 100%.
3. Use an Outdoor environment (for example, Outdoor 08) to change the default gradient used to illu-
minate the scene.
This provides some natural-colored lighting and additional environmental detail for reflective objects in
the scene. This will not provide realistic lighting but gives a nice representation of the interior space. The
rendered result is shown in Figure 9-38 . The background may be a bit more distracting than the simple gradi-
ent, but the attached alpha channel allows you to easily replace the background after the render is completed.
Figure 9-38: Outdoor environment presets can provide good lighting for visualization.
Lighting in this style can easily be augmented by adding some lamps or point lights (as built-in lighting).
While these are not specifically necessary to display the model, they can be very useful for adding finishing
touches to the scene when lighting in this style.
