In-Depth Information
To make broader changes to the coloration of the surface, process layers are very powerful tools. The setup
requires a few steps, but after it is in place, you can make adjustments very quickly. Follow these steps for
using process layers:
1. To start, add a process layer, which is located in the Processing section (Add Layer Processing
Process) of the Add Layer menu in the Shader Tree.
2. Right-click on the new layer and choose Create Instance.
3. Change the instance to Reflection Color.
4. Create another instance.
5. Set it to Subsurface Color.
6. At first, nothing will change, but these texture layers act like adjustment layers in Photoshop. From
one process layer, you can adjust the Bias and Gain settings as well as Hue, Saturation, and Value. This
kind of texture layer can be used to make subtle or sweeping changes to the material. In Figure 6-14 ,
Bias and Gain are set to 40% and 90%, respectively. Hue, Saturation, and Value are set to 450%, -75%,
and -10%. As with other aspects of texturing, a little experimentation and patience will give the best
results.
