In-Depth Information
example shown in Figure 4-9 , a single Directional Light is pointed into the scene through the window, and
global illumination is used to fill out the light and the rest of the room.

Environmental Lighting
In many ways, environmental lighting produces a similar effect to that of the Dome Light. With the basic
Environment Material (4 Color Gradient), Ambient Light will be cast using the colors of the gradient. By
default, the environment is set to a 4-color Color Gradient with different colors for the zenith, sky, ground,
and nadir. The colors used in the default gradients are neutral grays and will give balanced lighting to the
scene.
The image shown in Figure 4-10 is a good example of a simple global illumination. Note that this ex-
ample looks similar to the previous example of the Dome Light (just a little brighter). Because global illu-
mination has been highly optimized in modo, this scene actually renders much more quickly with this com-
plex lighting style. The Dome Light sample took around 1 minute and 15 seconds to render, whereas this
sample took less than 15 seconds. In addition, much of the grain and noise from the Dome Light to render is
not present in the global illumination sample.
