that supports less adhesion. The parts of the lamellipodium that enjoy more adhesion advance more because the leading edge has something against
which to push, while the contractile machinery behind it has something against which to pull. In the 'tug of war' between rival parts of the lamelli-
podium, these parts therefore win and the cell steers around towards them.
