ACCOMMODATION
Rosario has experienced a hostel boom in recent years
and at weekends many fill up with party-hard porteños .
The only time you need to book ahead is on weekends and
public holidays, when prices also go up.

a rather forlorn plaza on 27 de Febrero,
at Laprida, a full twelve blocks east of
Parque de la Independencia.
Alto Delta islands
Just across the river from Rosario, the
predominantly uninhabited Alto Delta
islands are linked to the mainland by
regular passenger ferries in the summer
(AR$25 return), while a weekend-only
service runs in winter. Ferries leave from
the Estación Fluvial (see below). Some
islands have underdeveloped beaches,
camping facilities and restaurants. A good
way to explore the delta is by taking
a kayak excursion (see below).

La Casona de Don Jaime I Presidente Roca 1051

popular party hostel whose lively bar, Roots , offers late-
night reggae music and tasty pizzas. The quieter sister
hostel, La Casona de Don Jaime II , at San Lorenzo 1530
( T 0341 530 2020), must be one of the few hostels in
Argentina to boast its own climbing wall. Staff at both
hostels can a rrange boating, kayaking and cycling excur-

.com. Why can't every hostel come with a giant mirrorball,
Che Guevara pop art, neon chandeliers and a red PVC

river, this light-drenched hostel has two patios to hang out

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
By plane Rosario's airport (Islas Malvinas International
Airport; T 0341 451 1226) is 10km northwest of the
centre. There are no buses into town; a taxi ride is around
AR$70, or take a taxi to the Fisherton neighbourhood,
from where buses #115, #116 and #160 run to the bus
terminal.
Destinations Buenos Aires (3 daily; 55min); Córdoba
(2 daily; 1hr); Mendoza (2 daily; 3hr); Montevideo,
Uruguay (daily; 1hr 20min); Santa Fe (3 daily; 1hr).
By bus The Terminal de Omnibus Mariano Moreno is
twenty blocks west of the centre, at Santa Fe & Cafferata
( T 0341 437 3030). Buses #141 and #146 go to the centre.
Bus fares must be paid in exact change or using pre-paid
passes.
Destinations Buenos Aires (every 30min; 4hr); Córdoba
(every 30min; 6hr 30min); Corrientes (7 daily; 10-12hr);
Montevideo in Uruguay (1 daily; 9hr); Puerto Iguazú
(3 daily; 19hr); Salta (6 daily; 16hr).
By ferry The Estación Fluvial ( T 0341 448 3737), in
Parque Nacional de la Bandera, has ferries to the Delta
islands. There are services year-round on weekends and
a number of inexpensive services daily Dec-March.
By train The train station ( T 0800 333 3822) is 3km
northwest of the centre.
Destinations Buenos Aires (3 weekly; 7hr).

right in front of the bus station, this spick-and span-hotel

kiosk in the bus terminal has city maps and hotel listings.

Cycling tours of the city run by multilingual guides ($120);
they also do kayak tours of the Alto Delta islands
